The B.B. came to a narrow defeat in a close encounter with Sutton Valence on 14 May 2026.
Batting first, the B.B. somewhat misfired in the opening overs, losing quick wickets for few runs on a perhaps slower than expected deck.
Challenging though it was, the crease was then occupied by Joe Gordon and candidate Henry Collins. Thankfully their skill and composure meant they could build a partnership and get the scoreboard moving. After patient and hard work, they enabled the team to get to a defendable score of 200 with vital contributions of 48 from Henry and 108 from Joe.
With the Elliot brothers opening our defence, the B.B. managed to take early wickets and put pressure on SV, holding them to 76-4.
Unfortunately the B.B. curse of dropped catches during the middle overs meant SV could build partnerships and keep the scoreboard moving, edging closer to the winning total. Important spells from Dyas, Mundell and Gordon put the BB back in the driving seat, with SV needing 49 to win with only two wickets remaining.
Sadly the B.B. were unable to take the final two wickets and claim victory, with some tired legs and loose hands from the B.B., SV managed to get over the line thanks to a matching winning 30* from their number 8.
A valiant effort from all those involved, up against it early on, displaying honourable levels of determination to get back into the game, however not quite good enough to get over the line.
Full credit to SV showing composure to chase down the B.B.’s total, thank you for the game!
UP THE BB!
