BB - 165 (43.3 overs)
King’s school - 166 -4 (30.4 overs)
King’s school won by 6 wicket
In stark contrast to last year’s fixture, conditions this year were autumnal with the game played in a state of near constant drizzle and heavy wind. BB decided to have first use of the wicket and after the early loss of both openers Toby Snape (32) and Toby Marriot (29) carefully went about rebuilding the innings with the generous assistance of the King’s fielders. The damage was done either side of lunch with the School reacting to the coaching staff’s hairdryer treatment in spectacular fashion as BB slumped from 98-3 to 134-8. It was left to Johnny Stubbs (23) to eke out some runs from the lower order with BB’s total of 165 feeling somewhat light.
Having successfully defended a similar total in 2015, BB went out hard in pursuit of early wickets only for King’s to get off to an absolute flier with an aggressive and in form top-order making batting look decidedly easy. A couple of wickets for Olly Reynolds helped stem the flow but the damage had been done by the time King’s reached tea at 100-2. BB battled hard in the last session with spirits undeterred by the worsening conditions; however, the school ended up completing a comfortable victory with 6 wickets to spare
